Structural Shortcomings of Mini Implants

I would like to know if you could explain a little more to me in an e mail about the structural shortcomings and the negative consequences of mini implants? I am trying to do all the research i can before doing this.

Dr. Kravitz: Structural shortcomings:: may easily fracture both implant and or bone. Negative consequences: extensive bone grafting may be needed to correct. Hope I am helpful.

Why doesn't insurance cover it?

Hello, I have been doing research on mini dental implants for dentures. If the FDA, and the ADA has approved these, then why won't dental insurance put them on there policies.

Dr. Kravitz:  Very good question. The reason (even though mini dental implants may be ADA and FDA approved) that dental insurance companies do not reimburse for these procedures has nothing to do with the procedure itself. The reason that they do not pay for this or anything else is the very reason they exist and that is to collect premiums and to pay out less in claims than they collect in premiums. That being said as an implant dentist I can tell you that mini implants have many structural shortcomings and are a compromise at best with the prospect of negative consequences if they do not work out. Please keep in mind that the previous statements are my professional opinion.
